Enter the final days of Advent with a resource designed to deepen reflection, awaken wonder, and draw attention to one of Christianity’s most ancient devotional practices—the O Antiphons.
This set brings together original fine art by Kelly Schumacher of Agnus Dei Liturgical Arts and an original written collection of Advent meditations, guiding households, congregations, and individuals through the seven historic prayers from December 17–23. With its layered symbolism, theological richness, and guided reflections, this collection invites you to slow down and ponder the prophetic titles of Christ as we approach the Feast of the Nativity.
Commissioned exclusively for this project, Kelly Schumacher’s beautiful 8.5" × 11" illustration draws from Scripture, the prophetic titles of Christ, and imagery rooted in centuries of Christian tradition.
Every element was intentionally crafted in collaboration to support meditation—evoking the mystery, beauty, and hope of Advent.
Display the artwork by your dining table, on your home altar, in your parish hall, or classroom to experience its depth and beauty, inviting repeated contemplation and making it a keepsake you can return to each Advent for years to come.
Accompanying the artwork is a digital booklet of daily meditations written by the Rev. Dr. Christian Einertson and the Rev. Josef Muench, with an introduction from Dr. Kristen Einertson and Tessa Muench of All the Household, who envisioned and developed the project.
The meditation booklet includes:
- A rich introduction to the history and meaning of the O Antiphons
- Seven daily meditations for December 17–23
- Scripture references
- Original Latin and English translations of the O Antiphons
- Explanations of the artwork’s symbolism
- Reflection prompts and suggested activities for each of the days
- Accessible language suited to families, individuals, classrooms, and parish groups
The reflections are rooted in the historic Christian tradition and welcoming to all who wish to enrich their Advent practice with the wisdom of the Early Church.
The versatility of this collection means that it can be used as part of your Advent observance year after year, as part of gatherings such as:
- Family mealtimes or evening prayer
- Homeschooling or Christian education settings
- Sunday school or Bible studies
- Advent by Candlelight groups
- Personal contemplation or journaling
What Are the O Antiphons?
The O Antiphons are ancient prayer texts traditionally sung with the Magnificat (Luke 2) during evening prayer in the week before Christmas Eve. Each begins with “O” and invokes a prophetic title of Christ—Wisdom, Dayspring, Root of Jesse, Emmanuel, and others—drawn from Old Testament promise and anticipation.
These antiphons form the structure of the beloved hymn O Come, O Come, Emmanuel and have been prayed in the Church since at least the early Middle Ages as a way of preparing one's mind, body, and spirit for the coming of Christ.
